Abstract

Purpose: Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is described as the inability to structure the auditory world. Due to the absence of any gold standard diagnostic specifically sensitive to APD in Brazil, confidence in the validity of a diagnosis of APD is debatable. The use of the information of the patient and his/her relatives confers important value to the diagnostic analysis, and such information can be collected through the use of standardized questionnaires. Barry and Moore (2014) developed a questionnaire called Evaluation of Children's Listening and Processing Skills (ECLiPS) to assess hearing and auditory processing skills in children to aid in the diagnosis of APD. Therefore, the objective of the project is to translate and adapt the ECLiPS questionnaire to Brazilian Portuguese and to apply it to a group of children with APD. Methods: the first stage of the project consists of the translation and adaptation of the English version of the ECLiPS questionnaire, following the methodology proposed by Guillemin et al. (1993). The second step is to apply it to parents of children with APD. For the diagnosis of APD, the following tests will be used: Dichotic Listening, Gaps In Noise (GIN), Compressed Speech and Temporal Masking. After that, the data will be computed and analyzed statistically using analyzes pertinent to the study. (AU)
