Abstract

Venoms and secretions of animals such as snakes, frogs, scorpions and spiders have been studied for their therapeutic potential and they have been used for the development of drugs for the treatment of several types of diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Specific toxins have already been isolated from snake venom and are the active components of some drugs for hypertension. In addition, there are currently several papers in the literature describing the anticancer potential of isolated and / or modified components of snake venoms in phase 2 and 3 clinical trials.Although there are numerous approaches involving the biochemical and physiological characterization of snake venom action on cell lines or tissues, no work has yet been described to map the proteome of cells under treatment with snake venoms. Thus, in this work, the proteome of several tumor cell lines treated or not with Bothrops jararaca snake venom will be characterized by mass spectrometry. In addition, we will characterize the comparative and quantitative differential proteomes of these lineages versus normal cells treated or not with the venom.The result of this analysis may reveal the action of B. jararaca venom at the molecular level that may be specific among different tumor cell lines or specific to normal cells.
