The association between connection with nature and the occurrence of Burnout Syndrome in primary health care professionals

Abstract

Occupational stress when chronic takes the form of Burnout Syndrome (BS) and is manifested by the symptoms of emotional exhaustion, affective distancing and low professional achievement. Some professions have greater exposure to environmental stressors, such as health professionals in which the prevalence of BS is close to 10%. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the association of the connection with nature in the prevalence of BS among Botucatu primary health care professionals. This is an analytical cross-sectional study with a minimum sample of 135 employees with health care end-use, such as community agents, nursing assistants, nurses, physicians, among others, proportional to their population in the municipality. After completing the TCLE, each subject will answer three questionnaires: Sociodemographic and Lifestyle Questionnaire, Nature Connection Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-SS). The hypothesis is that individuals with greater connection with nature do not have BS, that is, that this may be a protection factor. It would be justified, therefore, that initiatives that alter the health environments and programs increase the care of the worker through activity of nature exposure, which would revert in the decrease of absenteeism, iatrogeny and improvement of the quality of the services provided.
