Abstract

This project proposes to analyze the segments of national insurance and reinsurance activity, which are directly connected to the circulation of goods by maritime transportation on an international scale. We herein formulate the hypothesis that such segments can be understood as belonging to an urban network of quaternary services (or higher tertiary services of the economy) that orbit the productive spacial circuits and guarantee their uninterrupted operation on a local, regional and global scale, thereby associating to the regulation of the territory. The analysis will comprise its spacial periodization and its behavior in conjuncture and sectorial indicators, both national and international, which - associated to the probable patterns of location, distribution and spatial concentration of the suppliers of these services - may confirm or not the formulated hypothesis.
