Abstract

The historiography of the Brazilian modernist architecture, sedimented by the works of reference authors like Goodwin, Mindlin and Bruand emphasized the architectural production of the great centers: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. However, the consolidation of the Modernist Movement, which began in the 1950s, coincided with the great economic and cultural development of many cities and regions in the interior of the State of São Paulo. This fact is fully apprehensible when analyzing the amount of modernist architectural production of these cities and regions, disseminated by the major specialized journals that existed in Brazil since the 1930s - production, however, still little studied. In this way, the present research project proposes to raise and map the general picture of this production and contribute to deepen the knowledge about the modernist architecture produced by the great offices and architects of the country in the central region of the State of São Paulo, included in a macro-region in around Bauru and, specifically, the projects and works developed in the city of Araraquara/SP. Considering this, it is generally aimed at the research, to investigate historiographical the importance of modernist production in the interior of the State of São Paulo, from the diffusion in the specialized press of the time, and to investigate specifically the case of the production of the city of Araraquara, relating it to the publications and to the process of development of the interior of the State, between the 1950s and 1970s.
