Abstract Aim: To analyze after 12 months of follow - up the impact of advances in biological maturation on changes in components of the metabolic syndrome and inflammation among adolescents, as well as to identify the possible mediating role of adiposity and sports practice in such phenomenon. Methods: A longitudinal study started in 2017 (ABCD-GROWTH STUDY), in which data from 12-months follow-up will be collected in 2018. At least 236 adolescents aged 11 to 16 from the municipality of Presidente Prudente/Brazil will be evaluated. Participants will be contacted at 13 school units and sports clubs. Anthropometric measurements will be performed in order to estimate biological maturation (age at peak height velocity). Sports participation will be monitored throughout the 12 months of follow-up. Adiposity will be assessed by dual energy radiological densitometry. As outcome, the metabolic syndrome risk score (calculated by summing the z-scores of HDL-c, triglycerides, mean blood pressure and HOMA) and C-reactive protein will be adopted. For the statistics, will be conducted models of structural equation. Expected findings: It is expected to quantify the impact of maturational development on variables of cardiovascular risk of adolescents, as well as the roles assumed by the practice of physical activities and adipose tissue in such phenomenon.
