Abstract

Nowadays civil construction has been seeking out the use of sustainable materials not only from a constructive view, but also from the social point of view. Such is the case with the throwback to construction techniques with earth, albeit with modern technological and scientific innovations. Latin America has achieved great technological advances regarding the techniques of building with earth, and research has been carried out on soil stabilization with the use of products obtained from local vegetables. This work aims to study the use of castor oil as a stabilizer for adobes made with the collapsible soil of Bauru, using the soil sample used by PINTO (2016). Castor oil was extracted in the traditional way, as was done in colonial times and in rural areas. For the study of the properties of adobe stabilized with castor oil, tests were carried out regarding water absorption and retraction as proposed by the relative literature. Compressive strength tests were also carried out as proposed by the PROTERRA network.
