Abstract

Introduction: The changes caused by stroke, added to the sedentary habits of life cause slowing down on the kinetics of oxygen consumption, which, in turn, reduces the ability to perform daily life activities. Objective: To evaluate the impact of sedentary lifestyle on the response of oxygen consumption during the transition from rest-exercise (on-phase) and exercise-rest (off-phase), during the six-minute walk test in post-accident hemiparetic patients cerebral vascular disease in the chronic phase. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 81 chronic post-stroke subjects (6 months post-stroke), divided into three groups (<5000 steps / day, 5000-7499 steps / day and e 7500 steps / day) by gender, age and body mass index (BMI). The evaluations will be in 3 days, respecting a day (24h) between the first and second day, and an interval of 7 days between the second and third day. On the first day the subjects will be informed of the nature of the research project and invited to participate in the study. After 24h on day 2, they will perform the following tests: gait speed evaluation [10-meter walk test (TC10m)]; functional submaximal capacity [6-minute walk test (6MWT)]; and the StepWatchTM Activity Monitor (SAM) will be placed on the ankle of the non-paretic limb of the volunteers. On the third day, the accelerometer will be withdrawn after its uninterrupted use for 7 days. For analysis of the analytical statistic, the tests of normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) and homogeneity (Levene test) will initially be applied. If the variables have a normal and homogeneous distribution, one-way ANOVA will be applied to compare the differences between the groups (Ä, TRM, TA and A), otherwise the Kruskal-Wallis test will be applied. A significance level of 5% shall be considered for all analyzes. (AU)
