This research project is attached to my study of the cultural appropriation that Augusto Pinochet adopted regarding Francisco Franco's authoritarianism. We started our work from the analysis of cultural production of hispanidad by the Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, and then intended to study Pinochet's speeches in Franco's funeral, in which we can see the presence of the concept of hispanidad. In 1975, only a few head of states went to Francisco Franco's funeral. In that occasion, Pinochet made pronouncements praising the Spanish language and culture, and showing admiration to Franco's "communism combat". On the other hand, in 1948, isolated from the international politics because of his alliance with nazism and fascism, Franco created the Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, in which he had the purpose of propagating the Hispano América's ideal and union, trying to reinforce the idea of having Spain as a madre patria in relation to its hermanas americanas. In this manner, we proposed to investigate this fascist ideological transit, through the cultural appropriation that pinochetism (1973-1989) did in relation to the francoism (1939-1973). For this purpose, we use the typical methodological approach from Intellectual and Transnational History. However, in the past few months, we have found some difficulties regarding the conduction of our research project. First, the Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, as I've noticed through my investigation, were repetitive; furhermore the Cuadernos Americanos and Pinochet's speeches are not available online. Thus, considering the potentialities of this research for a future Master's project, the enormously library and collections at Ibero-American Institute (IAI) and the importance of the Institute of Latin American Studies of Freie Universität - Berlin, in these 2 months (December 2018 and January 2019) I intend to deepen my studies by researching new documents, new bibliographies and, also, new discussions.
