Abstract

This doctoral research project is part of a larger project called Mathematics in teacher training and teaching: processes and dynamics of production of professional knowledge, 1890-1990 - thematic project FAPESP - whose objective is to investigate in a historical perspective the the professional knowledge of the teacher who teaches Mathematics. Thus, in order to contribute to the thematic project, the specific problem of teacher education in the Normal School of São Paulo is dealt with, between the 1920s and 1950s, assuming that this institution, in its task of training teachers, elaborates knowledge for this formation, in terms of their theoretical choices of reference and appropriation of them. Taking into account the organization of the training subjects, we look specifically at the items that, during this period of research, involve the teaching of arithmetic. The study shares the theoretical-methodological framework present in the thematic project: cultural history studies (CHARTIER) and perspectives of socio-historical analysis of teachers' professional knowledge (HOFSTETTER; SCHNEUWLY). As sources of research will be used the official directives of the state of São Paulo, as well as teaching programs, teacher training syllabuses, and other documents that help to analyze the constitution of an arithmetic to train the primary teacher.
