Abstract

The objective of the project is to verify the fertility of the Tambacu hybrid (♂pacu X ♀tambaqui) compared to the purebreed pacu species. The work will be carried out at the Agência Paulista de Tecnologia dos Agronegócios (APTA) do Pólo Regional do Vale do Ribeira, using 100 pacu and 100 tambacu specimens with a live weight of approximately 1.8 kg identified by microchips and stored in two earthen ponds, with an area of 600 m2. At the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 (reproductive period), twenty specimens of each genetic group, 10 females and 10 males, will be transferred to the APTA reproduction laboratory and placed in 500 L tanks with aeration and constant renewal. Subsequently, the fish will undergo hormonal induction to obtain male and female gametes, which will be used to compose four different genetic combinations: Combination 1 (♂pacu X ♀pacu); Combination 2 (♂pacu X @ tambacu); Combination 3 (♂tambacu X ♀tambacu); Combination 4 (♂tambacu X ♀pacu). After fertilization the eggs will be transferred to conical fiberglass incubators, at least three for each genetic combination (experimental plot). The fertilization rate and the number of larvae for each plot will be estimated and the data obtained will be submitted to residual analysis to test the pre-assumptions of the analysis of variance, and will later be compared among the four genetic combinations of fertilization using the statistical methodology more appropriate.
