Abstract

The project considers the theoretical analysis, formulation and computational implementation of the metaheuristic called the biased random-key genetic algorithm applied to the problem of allocation of capacitor banks in electric power distribution systems. In particular, it is intended to apply this meta-heuristic for the optimal allocation of capacitor banks in radial distribution systems considering the allocation of fixed and switched banks and considering the discretization of the demand curve at three levels, that is, high, normal and light. The metaheuristic to be implemented is a newly developed optimization technique in the field of operational research and presents excellent performance in the optimization of highly complex problems.
