Abstract

Trifluralin (TFL) and Tebuthiuron (TBR) herbicides occurrence in environment have been reported by several studies. However, data on its toxicity in non-target organisms are not well stablished and may be associated with its commercial formulations. Since previous results from our research group has demonstrated TFL toxicity potential only at high concentrations, this research project aims to apply sensitive tools either to identify and compare early effects at low concentrations between TFL, TBR and its commercial formulations in embryo-larval stages of Zebrafish (Danio rerio). For this purpose, lethal, sub-lethal and teratogenic effects will be evaluated by morphometric and functional analyses through DanioScopeTM software. Concerning to investigate possible neurotoxic effects, we purpose to determine acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity followed by embryo activity monitoring analyses, which corresponds to early neurotoxicity biomarkers. Finally, as one of the most sensitive way to identify toxicants to developing organisms, we intend to analyze TFL and TBR effects on gene expression patterns related to neurotoxicity throughout embryonic development of D. rerio.
