Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify and correlate which individual conformation features may favor or impair the biomechanics of gait in Mangalarga Marchador horses. Ten Mangalarga Marchador adult horses will be used, chosen based on soundness, presenting good nutritional conditions and with characteristic conformation for this breed. To study linear and angular morphometric variables, animals will be photographed using adhesive markers positioned at the most used anatomical points to evaluate conformation characteristics and the image will be analyzed by ImageJ software (1.50e, National Institutes of Health, USA). Kinetic variables (propulsion, dorsoventral power, mediolateral power and total power) and kinematic variables (stride length and frequency, and dorsoventral displacement) will be obtained with Equimetrix (Centaure Métrix, Fontainebleau, France), both at walk and marcha. Correlation between morphometric and biomechanical variables will be evaluated by PROC CORR (SAS University Edition, The SAS System, SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, 2018).
