Abstract

Common bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) is a perennial weed often found in sugarcane areas, where once present can decrease sugarcane productivity. This specie is difficult to control, because of its extensive system of stolons and rhizomes that causes plants regrow after mechanical and/or chemical control. Nowadays studies are done to understand how the ecophysiological characteristics of plants are, in order to facilitate the control, and to know the propagation and to understand the degree and the structuring of the genetic diversity of the species. In this sense, 50 samples (collected from 5 regions of São Paulo) will be used to identify genetic variability with 12 microsatellite markers. It is expected to know better how the populations are structured, and compare these results with data of differential susceptibility to glyphosate in order to verify if there is any genetic association. The physiology of glyphosate will also be evaluated in grass-silk biotypes that present different levels of control, by evaluating absorption and translocation of the herbicide.
