Abstract

Since its inception, antimicrobials have been widely used throughout the planet. The practice of antibiotic therapy, sometimes abusive, has led to the development of bacterial resistance mechanisms. Acquired resistance is considered a serious public health problem, since it can lead to medical complications and unnecessary expenses for patients, both in Human Medicine and in Veterinary Medicine, since inconsequential prescription of drugs generates an ineffective treatment and the appearance of superbacter. Another major problem with antimicrobial resistance is the inadequate disposal of hospital waste, associated with inefficient treatment of sewage and industrial waste in inappropriate places, leading to a growing and uncontrolled increase in bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents, where bacteria are selected in these drug-packed media and multiplied on a large scale, since there is no effective intervention against this trend today. Therefore, evidence of the presence of the evils brought on by this indiscriminate use of antimicrobials and their measurement will be studied by means of antibiograms in samples of otitis, dermatitis, pyometra, urinary infections and canine abscesses in order to obtain encouragement to prove the existence of bacterial resistance in the animals that are treated at FMVZ - UNESP - Campus Botucatu - SP.
