Effect of restorative treatment with endocrown and ferrule on mechanical behavior of anterior teeth treated endodontically: in vitro analysis

Abstract

Because the significant loss of tooth structure, the endodontically treated teeth found at risk of biomechanical failure. This study aimed to evaluate, in vitro, the restorative effect with endocrown and with the ferule in the mechanical behavior of anterior endodontically treated teeth, througth resistance to fracture test. For this, 50 sound human canines will be treated endodontically and randomly distributed in 5 study groups (n = 10), according to the different restorative protocols: G1 - sound canines; G2 - conventional unitary crown and glass fiber post with ferule; G3 - conventional unitary crown and glass fiber post without ferule; G4- endocrown with ferule; G5- endocrown without ferule. The crowns will be obtained in lithium disilicate by means of CAD / CAM system and cemented with resinous cement. The specimens will be subjected to a thermomechanical cycling test (1 x 106 cycles, with a frequency of 3 Hz and 2000 thermal cycles with temperature variation between 5ºC - 55ºC) and, afterwards, a compression test that will be carried out in a universal test machine with a load cell of 500 Kgf and a velocity of 0.5 mm / min. To determine the failure mode, the specimens will be analyzed in stereoscopic magnifying glass at a magnification of 40 ×. Statistical analysis of the results will be performed by means of appropriate tests for the study with significance level of 5%.
