Abstract

Hybrid restorative materials such as nanoceramic resins and polymer infiltrated ceramics have been proposed in order to overcome the limitations associated to dental ceramics. The aim of this study is to evaluate the internal and marginal misfit of partial restorations (onlays) with different thicknesses fabricated using hybrid materials and its mechanical behavior through evaluating the stress distribution, reliability and failure mode. One hundred and twenty-six nanoceramic resin or polymer infiltrated ceramic restorations of 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 mm thickness will be cemented on epoxy resin (G10) preparation replicas. The internal and marginal misfit will be evaluated by ¼CT. The appropriated statistical analyses will be performed. The finite element analysis (FEA) will be performed to evaluate the stress distribution in the onlays and compared with the in vitro test results. Reliability will be evaluated by step-stress accelerated life testing (SSALT). Weibull curves will be calculated and plotted. Fractured specimens will be analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). (AU)
