Abstract

The territorial conflict is a characteristic inherent in the historical process of formation of the Brazilian territory. In Brazil's semi-arid these conflicts are expressed under different dimensions throughout the history of occupation and settlement of the region, whether through the dispute over the land, either through the dispute over the water, is the struggle for improved working conditions. We believe that the natural dynamics of the semi-arid region, which causes difficulties in access to water, promotes influences for the aggravation of territorial conflicts in certain areas of the region. In view of this, we aim to identify and analyze how the territorial dispute in the Brazilian semi-arid region occurs and the forms of materialization of territorial conflicts existing in the region from the 21st century. For this, we will try to see these territorial conflicts in the semi-arid from the information provided by the reports Field Conflicts - Brazil, published annually by the Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT). We will extract the information related to the categories of land conflicts, water conflicts and labor conflicts, seeking to make a reflection that allows us to understand how the conflicts represented by these categories can be understood as territorial conflicts. We will also support fieldwork in certain areas of the region where conflicts are identified, with the aim of conducting semi-structured interviews with existing subjects. (AU)
