Abstract

Spanish Poetry in the 17th century was regulated by definite poetic and rhetoric prescriptions and rules. Since Lope de Vega wrote a treatise on the subject, this project aims at clarifying how he puts his own theory into practice by a close reading of one of his most celebrated plays - i.e., El caballero de Olmedo. By so doing, we hope to understand how he articulates Aristotelian and Horatian concepts with his own poetic practice.
