Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the association between the aspects of sleep and the consumption of macronutrients by overweight nurses who work a night shift of 12 hours and take off 36 hours. This research is part of a randomized double blind clinical trial, crossover, and this study will only use the data collected in the baseline study. Will be carried out with 43 female nurses who work a night shift of 12 hours and take off 36 hours in a big Hospital in the city of São Paulo/SP. A food diary will be used to evaluate the intake of macronutrients, and the dietary patterns will be analyzed by a software called Nutrition Data System Research 2007 (NDSR). The sleep activity cycle (length, frequency, latency, awakening) will be measured by a device called Actimeter, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Linear regression analysis will be performed to evaluate the influence of sleep aspects on macronutrient consumption and the Generalized Linear Model (GLM) to compare macronutrients according to sleep quality. The adjusted variables will be age, body mass index and work schedule. For all the tests applied a significance level of 5% will be considered. For data analysis will be adopted the STATA 12.0 software.
