Abstract

The problem of antibiotic resistance has become a threat to global health. Increasingly, we are creating an atmosphere of selective pressure that has never been seen before by bacteria, due to either the use or misuse of antibiotics or any environmental contamination due to anthropological action. It is known that genes that confer resistance to antibiotics are both in pathogens and in environmental bacteria, evolving and spreading in the environment. Understanding how this process occurs can help in the epidemiological control of this growing threat. For this understanding, exploring the complex genetic content of pathogens, through sequencing and application of bioinformatics tools, is necessary and may open new possibilities of information, which can also be applied to the clinical context. The aim of this work is to assemble and analyze clinical isolated bacterial genomes, with different profiles of resistance to antibiotics, that were isolated at Hospital das Clínicas, Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, to identify genes and mechanisms of resistance present in the hospital environment.
