Abstract

The current urban scenario in which the water supply reservoirs are compromised and may cause an increase in the presence of contaminating metals that causes several negative effects on the aquatic environment. The Guarapiranga Reservoir in the state of São Paulo is characterized as an urban reservoir, being used for public supply and subject to contamination because it is located in a region with a huge emission of pollutants, and its situation is aggravated by the irregular dwellings in its surroundings. The aim of this research project is to evaluate the contribution of metals in the water and sediment in this urban reservoir and to relate the presence of these elements with seasonality and with the use and occupation of the soil in its surroundings, through analyzes on collected samples inside the reservoir by the technique of Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP OES). These results will be related to the sub area occupied by the sampling station, using as basis the law nº 12.233 of 2006 that divides the soil in the extension of the basin in which the Guarapiranga dam is inserted in sub areas according to the vocation of each site. The results will allow to understand how the use and occupation of the soil in the surroundings of the reservoir is related to the quality of the water, evaluating the main sources of emission of contaminating metals in the reservoir.
