Abstract

Propolis is a resin and balsamic complex mixture made by bees, whose production material is collected from buds, flowers and plant exudates. It is one of many natural products used for many centuries by population in different ways. This is due to its various properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, among others. Red propolis can be found mainly in northeastern Brazil and its botanical origin is Dalbergia ecastophyllum (L) Taub. responsible for its color. Knowing that the chemical composition of propolis may change according to the location and botanical origin from which it is collected, this work aims to evaluate the mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia activity, anti-inflammatory potential and toxicological profile of the red propolis obtained in the thematic project (2017/04138-8). To evaluate hyperalgesia activity, the DPA (Dynamic Plantar Aesthesiometer) and Hargreaves tests will be performed. For anti-inflammatory activity, the carrageenan paw edema test will be used. Toxicity will be assessed by laboratory AST and ALT tests for liver damage and Urea and Creatinine for renal damage. Thus, this work seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the action of red propolis, allowing to add value to the product and explore its market potential, as well as greater safety and efficacy in future clinical uses.
