Abstract

The present project aims to evaluate the socioemotional competences within a minority population and still little explored in the Brazilian reality: the individuals who present giftedness. Research on this subject, when existing, points to the predominance of investigations centered on the cognitive dimension of this phenomenon, involving procedures for identification and the elaboration of possible interventions. Such a framework points to the fact that there is an important gap in relation to studies that focus on the socioemotional skills of these individuals, although this aspect has been pointed out as a source of vulnerabilities in this population. In this sense, the objective of the project is to evaluate the socioemotional competences of the students identified with giftedness. More specifically, it proposes to: (1) Check for common personality traits in this population; (2) Identify strengths and weaknesses in these individuals; (3) Understand if there are differences in socioemotional skills in different types of giftedness, (4) To verify the existence of differences in the socioemotional profile among students identified with giftedness and regular students. The study sample will be composed of two groups. It is hoped that group 1 will consist of 100 students identified with giftedness, participants in attendance programs and resource rooms, coming from different cities and regions of the country, of both genders and without age limitation. A second group will be composed of regular students, not identified with giftedness, coming from public and / or private schools of both genders and without limitation of age, whose education will be paired, as far as possible, with that found in group 1. Participants will respond to the Social and Emotional or Non-Cognitive Nationwide Assessment, consisting of 54 items to be answered by the student, within a 5-point Likert scale. The results are analyzed in relation to five factors and their facets: Openness to the New, Self-management, Engagement with others, Kindness and Emotional Resilience. The descriptive statistics of the sample will be calculated in order to verify possible trends and profiles in the group with giftedness in general and considering the area in which the gifted is manifested in the subject. Finally, to identify possible differences between group 1 and group 2, the results of the groups will be compared, aiming to identify the existence of differences between this specific population and the general population.
