Abstract

The objectives of this research project are to analyze the piece Khorwa-Myalwa, for bass flute and electronics, by composer Mikhail Malt; as well as to analyze the creative processes involved in its composition. The composition of the piece had as a poetic starting point: the reading of Tibetan text Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro, that served as structural support for the electronic tape, through a recorded text reading, establishing this way the form of the piece. Malt had used a series of modeling processes during the its composition, as, for example, the use of intensity curves to parameterize sound events or the electronic melodic transcription for writing the flute part. As a theoretical foundation to the work, we present formalization notions from Hiller and Xenakis, as well as modeling notions from spectral music. The analysis consists of both a formal analysis, supported by the score, by hearing and by sound descriptors; and a creative process analysis, which will count with the support from the composer that will provide some of his sketches (paper sketches, computer program patches, sound files and anything that was used during the composition that can offer us information about his creative process) and possibly with an interview. A piece for flute and electronics will be composed as part of the work and under the influence of the analysis. (AU)
