Abstract

The herbicide tebuthiuron and the insecticide thiamethoxam are two agrochemicals widely used in sugarcane crops and can cause environmental damages due to their highly toxic potential and high soil persistence. Thus, this work aims to evaluate the environmental behavior of tebuthiuron and thiamethoxam associated or not to vinasse in sugarcane soil before and after natural attenuation. Eight treatments will be proposed by a completely randomized experimental design in a factorial scheme 2x2x2 linked to the recommended doses of (I) tebuthiuron and (II) thiamethoxam; and (III) the volume of vinasse in accordance with CETESB Technical Standard P4.231. Bioremediation efficiency will be evaluated regarding microbial metabolism, ecotoxicity; and microbial community composition. 90-days natural attenuation period will be performed in a greenhouse using pots with soil with no history of the application of agrochemicals. Biodegradation monitoring related to soil microbial activity will be carried out by the respirometric method, whose analysis period will also be 90 days. The ecotoxicological potential of soil samples will be determined at the initial (zero) and final (90 days) periods, using Enchytraeus crypticus as test-organisms. Finally, bioremediation activities will be correlated with changes in the structure and diversity of the microbial community in order to identify specific microorganisms in the degradation of these agrochemicals. Microbial community composition will be assessed by molecular biology techniques during an exchange period at "The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley - UTRGV".
