Exploring the bullying phenomenon in universities in the State of São Paulo

Abstract

Bullying is defined as repeated expositions of a person to negative behaviors coming from another individual or group with intention to revile. This behavior can cause serious prejudices in these people's lives. This aggressive behavior can be practiced directly, manifested in physical and verbal aggression, and also indirectly, when a person or a group ignores, intentionally, approach attempts from another person causing their exclusion from social groups. The research conducted so far show have shown that direct modes are more common in younger children, whereas relational bullying is more common in older students. In general, bullying is frequently seen in scholars, especially in elementary school, so the most of the studies focus on this public. It's known that older individuals also get involved in aggressive behavior, but just a few research focus on bullying at this population. The studies involving university students are very scare, but those that have been done have identified its occurrence. So the purpose of this study is to investigate bullying in universities, verifying if the practices fit the bullying concept often applied to scholars and if they have the same characteristics. An online form will be disclosed on social medias containing the consent form (Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido - TCLE) and the School Violence Scale - Student Version. The participants will be older than 18 years and matriculate in public and private universities from São Paulo. The obtained data will be analyzed according to the criteria established by School Violence Scale. (AU)
