Abstract

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells isolated from different animal tissues, which are capable of performing therapeutic functions, acting in several human and animal pathologies, when used in cell therapy protocols. In order to optimize their use and enable the creation of cryogenic banks containing MSCs, laboratories around the world use protocols containing cryoprotective substances in association with macromolecules, among which the most used is Bovine Fetal Serum (FBS). The use of FBS can bring several deleterious effects in relation to individuals undergoing cell therapy who will receive material containing serum molecules, such as anaphylactic reactions and transmission of prionic diseases, in addition to this substance bringing risks of contamination during cell culture itself. In this sense, it is pertinent to develop protocols that replace FBS, as an auxiliary macromolecule, in the cryopreservation process of MSCs, with Bovine Albumin, the Knockout " serum substitute and Polyvinyl Alcohol components with the potential to perform the functions of the FBS and replace it in its performance in the cell cryopreservation process.
