Abstract

Actinobacteria are known to be prolific producers of secondary metabolites, many of which are biologically active. Despite the diversity of compounds already isolated from actinobacteria, particularly of the genus Streptomyces, the biosynthetic potential of these microorganisms is far from being fully explored. In view of the almost 43 thousand natural products isolated from microorganisms, the isolation of only 69 secondary metabolites of endophytic actinobacteria indicates that these strains are under-explored and/or that the methodologies used to obtain these strains and their metabolites has not been effective. Using liquid chromatography coupled with sequential and high-resolution mass spectrometry for the dereplication of extracts combined with bioassays, helping to prioritize the isolation of new substances, this project proposes to isolate and structurally elucidate new and bio-active secondary metabolites from an endophytic bacterium strain obtained from Anthurium urvilleanum, a plant from the island of Alcatrazes.
