Abstract

A relevant line of studies in Moral Psychology is the investigation of how the judgment of moral violations can be influenced by social aspects (e.g., gender, race, etc.) of the agent and the target of moral actions. A problem for this type of evaluation is the currently available instruments that make it difficult to manipulate agent and target characteristics, since naming these factors could make the nature of the experiment explicit. Given this, the present project aims to develop a valid and ecological tool to evaluate the influence of social factors on the moral judgment process. This instrument, called Moral News Instrument, seeks to simulate newspaper news that shows the faces of the agent and the target, as well as providing a detailed description of the situation and other specific characteristics in textual form. In addition to the creation of the tool, we will also test the instrument to evaluate the effect of social factors, such as racial bias (Exp. 1), gender (Exp. 2) and attractiveness (Exp. 3) in the moral judgment of healthy participants. 320 university students will be recruited, of both genders, between 18 and 35 years old. Of this total, 200 participants will participate on the instrument validation and 40 participantes in each one of the three experiments. We will evaluate whether the type of agent and target interferes with the judgment of violations of the moral foundations of justice, care, authority, loyalty, purity and freedom. (AU)
