Abstract

The compounds that are good candidates for controlled drug release, have adequate biocompatibility and lipophilicity. In this sense, polyureas based on polyethylene oxide (PEO) can be very promising in the preparation of controlled release systems, as they have unique properties such as good mechanical resistance, transparency and flexibility. Thus, in this project the main objective is to evaluate the viability of polyureas as drug delivery systems, in particular, the use of a model anti-inflammatory such as naproxen. The samples will be prepared by the sol-gel process using a polymeric phase PEO and another phase based on isocyanate to form the three-dimensional polyurea network. The samples will be characterized at the University of Franca by X-ray diffractometry (DRX), thermogravimetric (TG) and infrared (FTIR) analysis. Swelling tests (water absorption by polyurea) will be correlated with the release profiles that will be performed using the UV-vis technique. Finally, polyureas can offer the opportunity to manufacture highly functional materials, which can offer a better aesthetic appearance, greater dosage flexibility, ease of use and greater simplicity of manufacture.
