Abstract

This research aims to evaluate and compare the effects of B-glucans extracted from the yeast cell wall with that extracted from seaweed on the composition of the intestinal microbiota, fermentation products in the feces and immunological parameters of adult dogs. Four diets will be used for the study: control without B-glucans (CON), B-LEV with 0.115% yeast B-glucans, B-A15 with 0.155% algae B-glucans and B-A31 with 0.310% of B-glucans from algae. The additions of the products were established so that the dogs ingest, in the lowest dose 15mg and in the highest dose 30 mg of B-glucan/kg/day. 32 adult beagles will be used, with 8 repetitions per diet, in a randomized block design. Two blocks of 84 days will be used, in the first 42 days all animals will receive the CON diet, considered washout. After that, they will be randomly distributed in one of the four rations for 42 days of experimental period. At the end of the wahsout (baseline evaluation) and at the end of the experimental period, the fecal microbiota, panel of cytokines in the feces and blood, IgA and calprotectin in the feces, C-reactive protein in the blood, phagocytosis index of monocytes and neutrophils in peripheral blood will be determined , ex vivo production of oxygen and nitrogen intermediates and immunoglobulin G. Fresh feces for the determination of fermentation products will be collected from the 28th to the 30th. Postprandial glucose and insulin curve will be determined on the 22nd to the 24th. The data obtained will be subjected to analysis of variance considering the effects of block, diet and time. If there are significant differences at baseline, baseline values will be used as a covariate. If differences are obtained in Test F, means will be compared by Tukey's test (P <0.05). (AU)
