Abstract Surface imperfections such as roughness may anticipate the laminar-turbulent transition process of the boundary layer. Current theories that predict the transition spot do not have adequate accuracy for the aeronautical design and are semiempirical, which makes the preliminary study phase of new aircraft configurations difficult. One of the problems of the theories used in industry is the prediction of the initial amplitude of the instability waves, which is a function of the flow receptivity to external disturbances. Existing theories of receptivity lack precise experimental data to develop. New experimental methods are emerging, for example in \ cite {Placidi2019}, but need verification of repeatability of results. In this scenario, the proposed work seeks to obtain data about the acoustic wave receptivity on boundary layer roughness from direct numerical simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations. The obtained data will be compared with the data of \ cite {Placidi2019} and will serve for the development and validation of receptivity theories. (AU) | |
