Abstract

The goal of this research project is to develop a tool, composed of formulations, methodologies, and strategies, to carry out the planning of the electric power system operation throughout the day. This tool determines the sequence of control actions that must be executed throughout the day to minimize operating costs and keep the system operational requirements satisfied for the current topology (base-case) and a list of contingencies. Whether it is not possible to meet the operational requirements for all contingencies, continue the operation planning satisfying the operational requirements for the base-case and most of the contingencies in the list, presenting emergency control measures for the critical contingencies, or rejecting some amount of load to keep the operational requirements satisfied for the base-case and all contingencies on the list. The representation of uncertainties in the loading levels of the system will also be investigated in the formulation of operation planning problems. (AU)
