Abstract

This project aims to use Crotalus durissus terrificus sPLA2 as a target molecule for screening and isolation and structural characterization of secondary plant metabolites and to evaluate its potential in controlling the enzymatic and pharmacological activities induced by the sPLA2 of this poison. Phyllanthus niruri (stone breaker), Eugenia uniflora (pitanga), Schinus terebinthifolius (red aromatic), Jatropha gossypiifolia (purple top) will be used as botanical material. These plants are already in the National List of Medicinal Plants of Interest to SUS together with other 71 species of plants, which act in various organs, in the treatment of diseases and as preventive action and in this list are only the plants authorized by ANVISA, including those listed that will be the object of our studies. Recently our group developed a method of screening, identification and isolation of natural plant compounds using the sPLA2 of Crotalus durissus terrificus as molecular bait for capture of compounds by their bioaffinities with the sPLA2. Thus, in this work we intend to evaluate this method to look for compounds with the capacity to reduce both the enzymatic activity and the antioxidant and pro-inflammatory effects induced by sPLA2 and to potentiate the possible benefits of these plants and to evaluate if these compounds are abundant or not of the botanical material prepared by decoction, by infusion or by maceration or in the form of syrup, which are the most common forms of use of these plants.
