Abstract

Recently in Brazil, most part of its housing production is mainly related to the results from the first and second phase of My Home, My Life Program (Programa Minha Casa, Minha Vida - PMCMV), launched by the Federal Government in 2009 and 2011 respectively. In recent years, the increase of housing construction in the country generated concerns, since the projects´ quality, as well as, their urban integration were not prioritized, a fact that has produced several critics from the specialized literature. In this context, the problems related to collective housing in Brazil point out to the need to rethink the dominant modes of spatial configurations, as an opportunity for the intervention in the urban space, in order to balance the social, political and economic reality involved in their production and use. Thus, this research aims to map and analyze collective housing projects, in the national scene, that presents alternatives solutions to housing segregation tendency, which has historically been followed in the country. These projects will be compared with housing projects in Madrid, as a counterpoint, in order to identify the existence of theoretical and methodological convergences between them. Therefore, this study should indicate new perspectives and disciplinary paradigms for the understanding and intervention in the current Brazilian cities, contributing to the improvement of housing architecture, its urban spaces and to overcome structural problems.
