Abstract

This research aims to reflect on the uses and social effects of the period tracking application called "Clue". This smartphone technology extracts data about menstrual cycles, enabling people to predict their fertile window and future periods. This work articulates gender, body and technology, around issues of: i) how the menstruapp comprehends the body and how this affects people who have periods, modulating bodily experiences; ii) how this technology works, and iii) the struggle around meanings between activists of digital security, feminists movements, people that uses the app and the app's discourses. The objective is to understand ambivalences on this universe, from issues of sensitive data and digital security to the possibilities of bodily meanings in this media. In this way, this research aims to understand the ideas of self-knowledge and consent on the internet, taking into account the discussion on feminist movements. (AU)
