Abstract

The objective of the present study is to evaluate the stability of the dentin matrix (by elasticity modulus, release of hydroxyproline and degradation by collagenase analyses) after pretreatment with ethanolic solutions of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in different concentrations. Seventy matrices of dentin collagen (demineralized beams) will be prepared to receive treatments (n = 10) with ethanolic solutions of different concentrations of CAPE (0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 2.5 or 5%) or control treatments (distilled water or ethanol). After treatment for 1 hour, the dental matrices will be evaluated for the modulus of elasticity, storing the specimens in SBF (solution body fluid) for a period of 3 months. After storage, modulus of elasticity tests will be performed again. The solution collected during storage will be evaluated for the release of hydroxyproline to analyze the degradation of collagen by endogenous protease. Dentin matrices will be subjected to degradation by bacterial collagenase to analyze the degradation by exogenous collagenase. The results will be evaluated using ANOVA two-way (for elasticity modulus and hydroxyproline release analyses) followed by the Tukey test, and by ANOVA one-way (degradation by collagenase), with a significance level of 5% (p Â0.05). If there is no homogeneity of variance, non-parametric tests will be employed.
