Abstract

This project aims to obtain a postdoctoral scholarship to finance research in accordance with the central objectives of the thematic project "Political institutions, standards of executive-legislative interaction and governance capacity". Between them, the intention is to systematically test, with robust evidence, the effects the legislative powers of the executive and the centralization of decision-making within of congress in the functioning of democratic systems. Although the project has successful in adopting a comparative perspective, most of the results obtained so far it is anchored in research on the Brazilian case. The main purpose of this scholarship is to expand our knowledge, seeking to establish bases for research that test the scope of the results obtained so far in a more perspective reportedly compared. Being more specific, our main objective is to extend the basis of research for other presidential political systems, located generally in Latin America. We know that, contrary to what the theory said, presidents resort to coalitions to obtain legislative support. However, how coalitions workparties in presidential regimes is a topic that has not received due attention in literature. Using a comparison between countries that adopt the same system makes it possible first a deeper understanding of the Brazilian political system, at the same timetime that allows a more comprehensive understanding of the regimes especially those who adopt the presidential form. With this proposal, the thematic project aims to encourage researchers to dedicate themselves to the theme. (AU)
