The present study will evaluate the protective effect of stannous-containing fluoride dentifrices on erosive tooth wear of bovine enamel and dentin. For this, 70 fragments of each substrate (3 mm x 3 mm x 2 mm), obtained from bovine incisors, will be used. Thefragments will be ground flat, polished and subjected to an analysis of their initial profile, using an optical profilometer. The specimens will be randomly distributed in 7 experimental groups (n = 10 for each substrate): 1. Negative control (brushing with artificial saliva); 2. Positive control (elmex Erosion Protection); 3. Sensodyne Sensibilidade & Gengivas; 4. Oral-B Pró-Gengiva Original; 5. Oral-B 100%; 6. Oral-B Gengiva Detox & Esmalte; 7. elmex Anticáries - conventional fluoride toothpaste without stannous. The specimens will undergo an erosive-abrasive cycling, consisting of 5 minimmersion in 0.3% citric acid solution, followed by immersion in artificial saliva for 60 min. This procedure will be repeated 4 times a day, for 5 days. After the first and last erosive challenges, the specimens will be brushed for 15 s with a 150 g load. The specimens will be immersed during brushing in the toothpaste slurries, according to the experimental group, until completion of 2 min of exposure. After cycling, the surface loss of the specimens will be determined by an optical profilometer. The data will be statisticallyanalyzed, considering a significance level of 5%.
