Abstract

The research aims at the analytical and comparative study on documentation techniques, including various methods for surveying and diagnosing cultural built heritage, with special attention to 3-dimension laser scanning (3DLS). It is a fundamental part of the Doctoral Thesis under development, "Techniques of Documentation, Survey and Diagnosis of the Built Heritage: the case of Museu Paulista", which aims to analyze the studies carried out in the building of Museu do Ipiranga, part of the Museu Paulista of USP, since its closure in 2013. It intends to evaluate how its results can lead to historiographic clarifications - provided that they are combined and interpreted together with varied documentary and bibliographic sources. During the Internship Abroad - to be held at the University of Ferrara, to which is articulated DIAPReM, a center of excellence in the use of advanced techniques for surveys -, special focus will be given to the potential of 3DLS, a technique adopted at the Museu do Ipiranga. Its outcomes provided unprecedent information about the building, and were critical for the correct understanding of its structural behavior and for the development of an accurate graphic basis, later used for the elaboration and detailing of the executive design for the Museum's expansion and restoration. The goal is to deepen the understanding about the technique, its limits and the potentialities of its combination with other methods, aiming at the integrated diagnosis of cultural built heritage. For that, specific bibliographic research regarding 3DLS technique are planned, together with critical monitoring in survey campaigns carried out by DIAPReM (including processing and analysis of the data obtained). The Internship Abroad is part of the Doctorate's work program, aiming at a Double PhD Degree at FAU-USP and Unife. (AU)
