Abstract

In view of the current challenges related to the competitiveness of the cultivar market, the sustainability of agribusiness and climate change, plant scientists have sought to add modern phenotyping techniques to the process of developing new cultivars; however, it should be considered that plant breeding has paid little attention to seed characteristics. The use of images generated on automated platforms stands out for using non-intrusive and little destructive methods and allows monitoring the behavior of plants at different stages of development until seed collection. Thus, the present work aims to study the phenotypic dissimilarity between soybean cultivars submitted to water deficit, throughout the cycle of plant development and seed production, through different optical sensors aimed at high-yield phenotyping. Two cultivars with differences in tolerance to water stress will be used. The effects of treatments (water deficiency) will be evaluated at different phenological stages of plants grown in pots, in a greenhouse, using image analysis techniques composed by different types of sensors, in addition to evaluations of plant development parameters, seed production (yield) and assessments of water content and physiological potential of harvested seeds. The data will be submitted to different statistical procedures to estimate its accuracy and consistency for the phenotyping of seeds and plants. (AU)
