Abrasive potential of dentifrices containing activated charcoal on dentin eroded: in vitro study

This in vitro work aims to evaluate the abrasive effect of toothpaste containing activated carbon on the erosive dentin wear. For this, 132 dentin samples will be prepared from bovine incisors, which will be distributed into the following groups: Group 1 - Colgate Triple Action (positive control); Group 2 - Colgate Natural Extracts; Group 3 - Colgate Luminous White Activated Carbon; Group 4 - Oral-B Whitening Therapy Charcoal; Group 5 - Oral-B 3D White Mineral Clean (n = 24 for all dentifrices) and Group 6 - Erosion only (without abrasion) (negative control) (n = 12). The samples will be subjected to pH cycling (4 x 90 s/day in 0.1% citric acid, pH 2.5) and to the abrasive challenge (2 x 15 s/day abrasion + 45 s of treatment), using a brushing machine for 7 days. Among the erosive and abrasive challenges, the samples will be immersed in artificial saliva. Dentin wear will be quantified by contact profilometry (¼m) by comparing the initial profile and the final profile. The data will be statistically compared considering p <0.05. (AU)
