Abstract

One of the main aspects underlying the scientific understanding of reality is mathematical modeling, in other words, the representation process of real systems through logic-mathematics abstractions. An important element in these abstractions are graphs, also studied in complex networks, an area that underwent great advances in the last few decades thanks to its versatility to many applications and to the continuous development in computational means. Examples may include biological systems, relationships, and knowledge. This project, inspired by Silva et all. (2010), we intend to model the knowledge of physical science with emphasis on the study of its borders. To do so, it will be created and analyzed many networks of knowledge representing large sub-areas, like electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and others, then, the respective borders will be estimated using complex networks concepts, in particular the measurement called accessibility. The motivations of this research include better understanding the interrelationships between the considered sub-areas and identifying the borders of current knowledge. (AU)
