Abstract

Cement-wood composites are great alternatives to traditional building materials as they have a lower density and combine the characteristics of wood and cement. However, the poor compatibility between these two materials can reduce their strength; thus, some methods are being studied to minimize this negative influence, and, among them, the pre-treatment of wood particles and the addition of nanocellulose may be promising options. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the influence on the physical-mechanical properties of cement-wood composites with the addition of nanocellulose, pre-treatment of wood particles, and use of two different types of cement. In all, eight treatments will be carried out and the manufacturing and tests will be based on the Brazilian standards ABNT NBR 7215, European EN 317, and US ASTM E1876. The composites will be manufactured with Eucalyptus Grandis wood and type II Portland cement with the addition of slag and a better performance cement CP V ARI, nanocellulose will be added to the mixture at a percentage of 0.5% in relation to the volume of cement and the Pre-treatment of the wood will be washing in cold water for 24 hours. The study intends to evaluate which of the variables has a greater influence on the composite's properties. The characterization will be carried out taking into account the specifications of the normative documents and the statistical analysis of the data to verify the normality and significant differences between treatments.
