Abstract

The research will make use of the analysis methods of the theory SDD (GUIMARÃES, 2007), the semantical dominion of determination, on two text-books of Portuguese as a foreign language, focused on English speakers, Colloquial Portuguese of Brazil (2008) and Say it all in Brazilian Portuguese (2009), the first is structured in a manner more commonly used in foreign languages text-books, and the second is structured like an everyday communication guide for tourists with shallower teaching of the language, although both are focused on the teaching of the everyday, informal and colloquial register of Portuguese. This work will be, mainly, situated on Eduardo Guimarães's theory, Semantics of the event (2002), with the use of the concepts as created and reframed by him in his works. Therefore, an analysis of these books will be done and a definition of the informal register of Portuguese inside them will come from it. Remember that translations are treated here as a process of rewriting, in which expressions determine and are determined by their translations. (AU)
