Abstract

This in vitro study will evaluate the effectiveness of isolated and associated Proanthocyanidin and Vitamin E in preventing initial enamel erosion. Bovine tee the name blocks will be divided into 9 studied groups (n= 12): G1- Elmex Erosionprotection (positive control), G2- Deionized water (negative control), G3- 6.5%Proanthocyanidin, G4- 2% Proanthocyanidin, G5- 100% oily Vitamin E, G6- 100% oily Vitamin E + 6.5% Proanthocyanidin, G7- 6.5% Proanthocyanidin + 100% oily Vitamin E, G8- 100% oily Vitamin E + 2% Proanthocyanidin, G9- 2% Proanthocyanidin + 100%oily Vitamin E. The acquired enamel pellicle will be formed in situ by an intraoral palatal device containing the enamel blocks. The treatment will be carried out by applying the solutions for 30 seconds. After that, the enamel blocks will be demineralized by citric acid (0.5%, pH 2.5) for 30 seconds. Then, they will be rinsed in deionized water to cease the demineralization process. The response variable will be a percentage of hardness loss by evaluating the initial (before treatment) and final (after the initial erosion) hardness. Data will be checked for normality and homogeneity. If they pass these tests, they will be submitted to ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (p<0.05). (AU)
