Abstract Chitosan is a natural biopolymer extracted from the arthropod exoskeleton and is a material with wide application due to its antimicrobial, healing, repairing and bioactive properties, which are interesting for a root canal sealer. In these sealers, solubility is an important property that can influence microbial leakage and the filling integrity. Thereby, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the solubility and volumetric change in use of chitosan biopolymer as a vehicle of an experimental calcium silicate-based root canal sealer and to compare with another experimental sealer, without the chitosan and with the calcium silicate- based sealer, EndoSequence BC Sealer. The sealers solubility will be based on the ISO 6876/2012 test and Carvalho Junior et al., 2007, (n=6). The volumetric change will be evaluated through the sample volume loss (n =6) of the sealers scanned in micro-CT, before and after 30 days immersion in distilled water. For statistical analysis, the normality and homogeneity data will be evaluated using, respectively, the ShapiroWilk and Levene tests. If the data is normal, the two-way ANOVA test will be used to evaluated statistical difference between groups, and post-hoc with Bonferroni correction will be used to evaluated differences between groups, considered at the significance level less than 5% (P <0.05). | |
