Abstract

Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by fungi that occur naturally in foodstuffs, which can cause a large variety of toxic effects on vertebrates, including humans. There is evidence that mycotoxin bioavailability can be modulated by Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and yeast biomass, thus reducing the dietary exposure to aflatoxins. The objective of this project is to assess the efficacy of a functional yoghurt previously prepared with LAB and yeasts biomass (0 e 4%), to decrease the toxic effects of aflatoxins (0 and 1.0 mg/kg) in feed, alone or in combination with fumonisins (0 and 10 mg/kg), on piglets, during 28 days. Data on performance, histology, serum biochemistry parameters and serum mycotoxin biomarkers will be analyzed as a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial. (AU)
